About us and The Mental Health Program

Thank you for visiting! We’re glad you’re interested in learning more about our work

Here’s how we’re making an impact:

Our Mission and Vision

Faithless Hijabi is a secular, non-profit organization dedicated to providing life-changing mental health support and advocacy for ExMuslims who have faced persecution, discrimination, or social ostracism after choosing to leave Islam or other faith communities. We champion the right to freedom of belief and work tirelessly to create safe, secular spaces for individuals to heal, rebuild, and reclaim their lives. Our focus is on supporting those at high risk—refugees, displaced individuals, LGBT minorities, and women facing honor-based violence—many of whom come from regions where questioning or leaving Islam carries severe personal consequences.

Mental Health Program

Our Mental Health Program is a crucial lifeline for ExMuslims who have been marginalized, silenced, or threatened for their beliefs. This program addresses the complex and deeply personal challenges faced by those leaving Islam, where social isolation, trauma, and fear often create profound barriers to recovery. Most of our beneficiaries are from the Middle East, though we’ve supported individuals from 29 countries. To ensure accessibility, our therapists provide culturally attuned, trauma-informed care in English, Arabic, and Farsi, understanding the unique contexts that shape our clients’ experiences.

In countries where seeking mental health support as an ExMuslim or an LGBT individual can be dangerous, Faithless Hijabi offers a secure alternative. We connect ExMuslims with multilingual therapists in confidential online settings, mitigating the risks associated with seeking help. For many, this is their first chance to openly discuss their struggles with professionals who both understand the trauma of leaving Islam and respect the cultural nuances that influence their journeys. Each session is a step toward healing, resilience, and self-recovery.

The program’s core mission is to address the profound and often unspoken impact of religious trauma on ExMuslims, for whom specialised mental health services are extremely rare. Recognising the unique challenges they face, Faithless Hijabi offers safe, confidential therapy sessions to ExMuslims globally, particularly in regions like the MENA, where seeking local support can be dangerous. Through this program, individuals receive compassionate, culturally attuned care, empowering them to process their experiences, build resilience, and navigate the complexities of reclaiming their lives outside of faith.
