Statement on the Tragic Magdeburg Attack: Standing Firm Against Hatred
By the Faithless Hijabi Team
Over the past few days, many of us ExMuslims, as well as people around the world, have been deeply shaken by news of a tragic attack at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany. The loss of life and the trauma inflicted have stirred profound shock, fear, and sorrow—reminders that violence can strike in moments meant to foster community and celebration.
Faithless Hijabi unequivocally condemns the horrific attack in Magdeburg. Our hearts go out to the victims, their loved ones, and all those affected by this senseless act of violence. Reports indicate that numerous people were injured, and tragically, at least two lives were lost—including that of a small child—when a car struck a crowd at the Christmas market. We extend our heartfelt condolences to anyone affected by violence, wherever and whenever it may occur. We at Faithless Hijabi stand against hate, division, and terror in all forms. We uphold the sanctity of life and affirm the shared humanity that brings us together beyond all differences.
We also recognise the profound toll such news can take on mental and emotional wellbeing. In recent days, we have heard from several ExMuslims expressing fear, dismay, and confusion, especially those who found refuge abroad after fleeing hostility in their home countries. We want to emphasise that help and support are available. If you feel anxious, distressed, or unsafe, please know you are not alone. Reach out to mental health professionals, counsellors, or trusted community members for immediate assistance.
As ExMuslims, we recognise that our personal beliefs and ideologies may differ; nevertheless, we hope to stand firmly together against hate and violence. We strive to foster a community anchored in resilience, committed to freedom of thought, compassion, and respect for every individual—including immigrants and refugees seeking a safer life elsewhere.
During these challenging times, let us reaffirm our dedication to empathy and solidarity. Hoping we can transform fear and sorrow into strengthened bonds, uplifting one another and championing a world founded on mutual respect and the inherent dignity of every person.
